My First Broken Bone!

That's right! After 26 years and years of playing sports, I finally broke my first bone! Monday night at our coed softball game I decided last minute that I would try to beat out a throw by diving into first base. I was out...and as I was going to get up I saw my left index finger and I just screamed out loud, "Oh my gosh!!! I just broke my finger!!!!"

I didn't even feel it at first until I looked at it! Fingers are NOT supposed to do that! The catcher on the other team was so nice to come over while I was still sitting on the ground. She kept covering my eyes with her arm telling m over and over not to look at it...it was that disgusting! Everyone on our team said they've never seen Chris run as fast as he did over to me! I know, isn't that cute?!

Chris drove me to the ER at Riverview hospital. Surprisingly, my finger was so perfectly dislocated that it didn't hurt as long as I didn't try to move it. For all the people who were wondering how I was taking pictures of my finger and posting them to Facebook from my iPhone while on the way to the ER, that's why...it really didn't hurt as badly as it looked!

Barb, the lady at the front desk, was very entertained at my finger. By the look of it, she assumed it hurt badly enough to get someone to take me back to the ER immediately. All the nurses kept coming by to check it out. My nurse asked me on a scale of 1 to 10 what my pain level was and she looked at me like I was crazy when I said, "a one!"

The most painful part was when Dr. Howard came in to put shots in my finger to numb it before he popped it back into place. He thought we'd be able to pop it back into place and I'd be back to normal the next day. I was super excited!

Then came the bad news. After he looked at the xrays of my finger, it turns out I have a slight break in my knuckle. I have to wear a splint for 6-8 weeks. Booooo! Now I don't get to play in the tourney! and I'm in a wedding this weekend, so I'm wondering if I can get a purple ace bandage to match my dress! :-)

So here are the pics of my first broken bone...look if you can handle it!

Thanks to our friends, Jess and Tyler, for coming to the ER to check on me! We went out to eat at KFC afterwards, and Tyler took Chris back to the softball fields to pick up our other car, while Jess waited with me at CVS while I picked up my prescription for the pain and drove me home so I wouldn't have to drive. What great friends! ...and Leslie gave us a present tonight...she made us our favorite for both Chris' birthday and for my finger...SALTY SWEETS!

Bad Dog!

Chris let me sleep in all morning, so when I came downstairs and found him napping on the couch I didn't want to wake him. I let our dog, Paoli, out on her chain in the backyard, ate some breakfast, and when I went to let her back in she had somehow got off her chain!

Oh great! Usually it takes a good hour when this happens to get her back home! I had to wake Chris up from his nap after all!

She was only a few houses down and she was in the middle of leaving a present in one of our neighbor's yards. I tried running over to her to put her on her leash before she finished, but I didn't get there in time. I thought, "Oh great, this is going to be so much fun!" :-/

I was sprinting only a few steps behind her until I thought I was about to pass out! Man, am I out of shape! Thankfully, she stayed on our side of the street and she got trapped between our neighbors to fences. It was a good thing she didn't go on the other side of the street where there is an easement that I would have had to chase her down. On our side of the street you can build your fence all the way to the privacy fence, so I was able to trap her and take her back home. At least it only took about 5 minutes this time, rather than an hour!

This is why we need to finish our fence, so we won't have to worry about her getting our chain! Bad dog!

Where's Willoughby?

What a fun night! Tonight was our Jr. High girls event. Two weeks ago the boys had their "Knock Out, Drag Out Dodgeball" event. We had "Where's Willoughby?" for the girls, which was a scavenger hunt where each team had a list of tasks to complete. There were about 10 teams of 4 to 8 girls, and they were each given a packet with a list of clues which had to be completed in the order they were given, and the last task was to find Corey Willoughby, our Jr. High pastor!

It was so much fun! We had to find the answers to certain questions that took us all around the church to find the answers like...
1. Find the church's charter and write in the 1st, 9th, 13th, 32nd word
2. What was on today's lunch menu for the Noblesville Christian School?
3. What's the word of the week?
4. What's WRCC's mission
5. How many light switches are in the gym?
6. What's the maximum number of people that can fit in the sanctuary?
7. Go to the umbrella-filled room and count the number of fire alarms
Then there were tasks like...
8. Go to the Discovery Room and complete the Sudoku puzzle
9. Go to the back parking lot and get 10 points in cornhole
10. Have one person from the team eat 3 powdered doughnuts with out anything to drink while the rest of the team sings songs
11. Have one person eat a whole banana and drink a whole can of sprite

Randomly teams could get stopped by other volunteers or other team leaders to try and delay a team from advancing by making the whole team stop and do 15 jumping jacks, sing a song or do 25 push ups (thanks Leslie)! That made it fun, because after Leslie made our team drop and do 25 push ups, they were trying to hide from us...but we finally got them to do 25 push ups, too!

There was a total of 20 different questions/tasks and the final one was the race to find Corey! Team Tie Dye (a group of 5th graders) won by finding him in the baptismal in the sanctuary! A group of 6th graders (Team Pretty Pink Potatoes) made their own shirts and won best costumes! They all received cool Where's Willoughby t-shirts...I want one! :)

It was so much fun to see the teams working together to solve the clues! It was just as much fun to hear them screaming ;) I think I lost count of how many times I had to tell our team not to run! There were times I had to tell myself not to run, too!

Overall, it was an awesome night of fellowship for the girls, and Chris and I have just as much fun at these events as these junior highers do, too!

Tailgating Extravaganza

Today was a busy, yet fun-filled day. Chris was gone most of the afternoon, so I used that time to shop for his upcoming birthday on October 1st (can't reveal what I got him, yet). I knew if I said I had to go shopping any time while he was home that he would know I was shopping for him!

Then I helped our friends, Jess & Tyler, paint their new house because they are moving in this coming weekend! Crunch time!

Then it was off to the Tailgating Extravaganza, which was held out in our church parking lot right next to a huge field where all the Upward Sports games are played. It was a ton of fun and a great turn out...I'm sure there was at least 100 people running around.

A group of us friends had a spot and served coney dogs and pop, complete with cornhole! There were many other tailgate stations with yummy food, like pulled pork, ribs, chocolatey sweets...even O'Charley's came out and served ribs, chicken and salad!

There was even a bounce house (I wish I could have jumped around), face painting and a guy making cool stuff with balloons for all the kids. And of course our awesome worship band was out there jamming!

You're probably wondering why in the world we were tailgating in our church parking lot...A FOOTBALL GAME, OF COURSE! The pastors of WRCC played the coaches of the Upward Football league in a game of flag football! Chris got "hired for the day" to play on the pastoral team and did a great job on defense!

It was fun to watch. Close game, but the coaches won! Sorry babe :)

...and a football game wouldn't be complete without an awesome mascot!...miss Haleigh Comp!

umm...I took pictures and a couple videos which I will have to upload later since I apparently misplaced the adapter to my computer for my camera and can't seem to find it anywhere...grrr :)

My Final Attempt at Blogging

This is my attempt to enter the blog world and actually stick with it. I've been thinking about it for a while, especially since some great friends of ours moved away and aren't on Facebook (where you can usually find out what is going on in our lives). This is is a way to keep in touch from miles away (when phone tag seems to be inevitable) :) and also for family and friends who just might be interested in what is going on in our world.
